Rainbow Medicine — Complementary Wellness
Scent is ancient medicine. These carefully formulated blends — massage oils and diffuser blends alike — are chosen to extend and deepen the healing work you do in the treatment room, carrying its effects into your everyday life.
The Aromatic Dimension of TCM
Traditional Chinese Medicine understands the body as an integrated system — physical, emotional, and energetic. Acupuncture works by regulating the flow of Qi through the meridian network, but the healing does not stop when you leave the clinic. The hours and days between sessions are an opportunity to reinforce and sustain what has been set in motion on the treatment table.
Essential oils provide one of the most accessible bridges between clinic and home. Absorbed through the skin during massage or inhaled through the olfactory system via a diffuser, aromatic compounds interact with the limbic system — the brain's emotional and autonomic centre — influencing mood, nervous system tone, hormonal regulation, and the body's stress response. In TCM terms, different oils support different organ systems: lavender calms the Heart and Liver; citrus oils lift Liver Qi stagnation; frankincense grounds the Shen (spirit).
Dr Christine Shen has selected a curated range of massage blends and essential oil diffuser blends specifically to complement the treatments available at Rainbow Medicine. These are not generic aromatherapy products — each blend has been chosen to align with particular clinical presentations and therapeutic goals. Your practitioner may apply a massage blend at the end of your session, or recommend a diffuser blend for home use between appointments.
Applied topically during or after treatment. These blends are formulated in a base of carrier oils — soya bean, jojoba, sunflower, wheatgerm — enriched with Vitamin E and combined with therapeutic essential oils chosen for their specific physiological and emotional effects. They can be applied by the practitioner during bodywork or used at home for self-massage. Always patch-test before first use.
Used in a diffuser, oil burner, or inhaler at home. These concentrated blends are not for topical application. Add a few drops to your ultrasonic diffuser or oil burner to create a therapeutic aromatic environment — particularly powerful during rest, meditation, before sleep, or while doing the inner work between therapy sessions. Some blends are ideal for the treatment room itself.
